Beloved

What bonds a family together? A mother to a daughter or a sister to a sister? Love. it brings people together in ways that cannot be fathomed. It's almost indescribable, a feeling or an impulse that forces the mind to react in sometimes unreasonable ways.

Sethe has been living in the past for the last 20 or so years. She regrets killing her first daughter in hopes of saving her from slavery. When "Beloved" returns from the dead, Sethe is compelled to grant her every wish. Beloved shrinks Sethe down to a small being, almost getting back at her for the terrible things she has done. Sethe could hardly see Beloved's anger because she was bonded by such a love for her daughter.

Denver, is also closely connected to her dead sister by the blood from her murder. When she returns, Denver takes to role of taking care and teaching her sister how to live in their home. She feels like Beloved is a companion that will wait with her for her dad and brothers to come home.
Familys are bonded by love. It is here that I declare that I am reforming my "big question" to some form of the bond of love and how far people will go to keep the bond between one and other.
